Dragonkin: The Banished is an action RPG focused on fast-paced hack-and-slash combat, character progression, loot, and build customization. Players can choose between four different heroes: Barbarian, Oracle, Knight, and Archer, with each character offering a different combat style. The Barbarian and Knight are suited to close-range battles, while the Oracle and Archer provide more ranged-focused options.

A major part of the gameplay is the Ancestral Grid, which allows players to develop their characters by placing abilities and modifiers into different slots.
