Story Overview
I watch Carmen Flores, a researcher and explorer as she travels to a facility, in South America after reports of disappearances and strange phenomena. Inside Carmen Flores discovers that the facility hides secrets that are far more dangerous than anyone expected.
The research center has gotten filled with animals. There are signs around the place that show people did strange science experiments. These experiments were, about things that don’t make sense and about time. Players slowly find out what really happened by walking through rooms listening to voice messages looking at computers and searching for clues. The narrative is designed around mystery and discovery, so the environment itself becomes an important part of the storytelling.
Gameplay Breakdown
Athanasia focuses on exploration and survival. The facility contains hidden paths, locked areas, useful equipment, environmental puzzles, and resources that can help players progress.
One of the game’s important mechanics is resource management. Instead of simply rushing through every encounter, players need to think about when to engage with enemies and when it is smarter to avoid danger. Stealth, environmental interaction, distractions, and careful exploration can all play a role in surviving.
The game also includes crafting, allowing players to combine resources and create useful items. This gives exploration a practical purpose because searching the environment can provide materials needed later.
Its nonlinear areas are designed to provide different approaches to objectives, giving the experience an immersive-sim flavor rather than forcing players through a completely fixed path.
Features Worth Exploring
Athanasia offers several features aimed at fans of classic survival horror and immersive first-person games.
- Exploration and Discovery: The abandoned research facility contains hidden locations, documents, audio logs, and secrets that gradually reveal what happened.
- Resource Management: Equipment and supplies are limited, encouraging thoughtful exploration and planning.
- Crafting: Resources can be combined to create useful items and tools.
- Interactive Environment: Players can interact with computers, doors, machines, and other elements of the facility to open new routes.
- Nonlinear Gameplay: Different paths and approaches can make exploration feel less predictable.
- Retro Horror Atmosphere: The visual direction draws inspiration from classic PC FPS and survival-horror games, giving Athanasia a nostalgic but unsettling identity.

Graphics & Sound
Athanasia uses a retro-inspired 3D visual style that recalls classic PC games while building a tense horror atmosphere. Dark corridors, abandoned research areas, mysterious rooms, and prehistoric creatures help create a world where exploration can feel dangerous.
The environmental design is particularly important because the facility is not simply a background. Computers, doors, machinery, pathways, and hidden areas contribute to the player’s progress and sense of discovery.
Audio also plays an important role in maintaining tension. Environmental sounds and audio logs help build the mystery while making the abandoned facility feel more alive.
Performance on PC
Athanasia has relatively modest officially listed hardware requirements compared with many modern PC games. Steam lists Windows 7 or newer, a 2.4 GHz dual-core processor, 4 GB RAM, and a GTX 660-class graphics card for minimum specifications. The recommended configuration lists Windows 10, 8 GB RAM, and a GTX 750-class GPU.
Actual performance can vary depending on drivers, background applications, resolution, and graphics settings. Players with hardware close to the minimum requirements should consider using lower graphical settings for a smoother experience.
